Courage to Change:

I always figured most of my troubles would be over if I won the lottery. Anything would be possible with that much money! But would it take away the effect alcoholism has had on my family? Would it make the drinkers sober? Could it guarantee happiness? Is money really what I want?

No, of course not. What I really want is to feel better. Nothing will eliminate all problems from my life. Since there are difficulties with which I must live, the only real answer is to seek the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Today I know that serenity is available to me free of charge when I go to Al-Anon meetings and then apply the principles I learn there to my life.

Money won’t buy serenity; in fact, I’d probably have a whole new set of problems and decisions if a fortune ever did fall into my lap. But as an Al-Anon member who can rely on a Higher Power’s help with any and every problem that comes along, today I feel like one of life’s winners.

Today’s Reminder:

Serenity is always available to me, but it is my job to seek it where it can be found.

“…I now try to take my problems to my Higher Power, but I leave the solutions and the time table up to Him.”
