One Day at a Time in Al-Anon:
One of the difficulties many of us experience when the alcoholic has turned from The Bottle to AA and sobriety is that we may have just as little companionship as we had before. What good is it, we complain, to have him out every night, whether it’s at a bar or an AA meeting?
Al-Anon can be of infinite help to us in correcting this point of view. We learn to see this new way of life in its true light: as an opportunity to relieve ourselves of our feeling of responsibility for the alcoholic, and to recognize and build upon the inner resources on which our personal serenity depends.
Today’s Reminder:
I prayed for sobriety — and now it’s here. Am I using it only to find new reasons for feeling sorry for myself? Wouldn’t I be happier if I could now turn my attention to finding ways to enjoy this new life?
“I pray to understand that the adjustment to sobriety is no more difficult for me than for the alcoholic. Let me look for the good things in this new way of life.”
